Overview

Posit Package Manager gives organizations a central, controlled source for the R and Python packages their data science teams install.

Administrators decide which repositories and package versions are available, see known vulnerabilities and can block releases, while teams install packages from one consistent place.

Key capabilities

  • Centralized package repositories: one internal source for R, Python and other package repositories.
  • R and Python package management: mirror public sources such as CRAN, PyPI and Bioconductor alongside internal packages.
  • Package curation and access controls: offer curated subsets of packages and block specific releases.
  • Vulnerability visibility and governance: show known vulnerabilities for package versions.
  • Reproducible package environments: install packages as they were available on a chosen date.
  • Enterprise package distribution: distribute approved internal and public packages to every environment.

Applications

Enterprise package governance: control which packages and versions are available to teams.

Reproducible analytics environments: rebuild environments with the same package versions later.

Software supply chain management: see vulnerability information and keep blocked releases out of use.

Controlled distribution of approved packages: give teams a curated set of packages to install from.

Supporting regulated data science workflows: keep a documented, consistent package source for regulated work.

Part of the Posit ecosystem

Posit Workbench, Posit Connect and Posit Package Manager have complementary roles in an enterprise data science environment.

Develop
Posit Workbench — Where teams write and run R and Python code.
Publish
Posit Connect — Where finished work is deployed and shared.
Govern
Posit Package Manager — Where the packages both rely on are curated and distributed.

Each product is licensed separately. Posit also offers them together as Posit Team. Available features depend on the product edition and licence.

Developer
